I wrote a while ago about the wonderful event that was the Unleashing of Transition Malvern Hills. I mentioned that at the event they showed a 20 minute film, drawing together some of the different work underway in the area. That film is now online, and you can watch it below….
In October 2007 a new law was created. This new law has, for the first time, set up a ‘bottom-up’ process where local people can drive central government action to protect or create truly localised and sustainable communities. It establishes the right for local people and councils to submit proposals for government action. Government is then required not just to consult, but to try to reach agreement on the implementation of those proposals.
It’s nearly three years since I received a copy of The Transition Handbook and was inspired to become involved in the movement. Much has happened since then both in terms of the way Transition has developed and in the wider world of global economics and environmental concerns. So it was with great interest that I read Rob Hopkins’ PhD thesis (progenitor of the Transition model).
