The Official Unleashing of Sandpoint Transition Initiative, Live Online (especially of interest to US Transitioners and UK-based insomniacs)

At 3am GMT and at 7 PM Oacifi Standard Time, today (Friday), the Sandpoint Transition Initiative have their Great Unleashing, which will be broadcast live online (see the box below). This is technologically impressive stuff (at least it is for a Luddite like me). I’ll be tucked up in bed, but hopefully we’ll be able to see it later too. Wishing STI all the very best with their Unleashing, I’m sure it’ll be a wondeful evening.

Latest Transition Podcast Available

The latest Transition podcast is now up and ready for listening to over at Traydio.  It features clips from various Transition recordings that have been posted on Traydio in recent weeks.  It makes a great audio introduction to the Transition movement, visiting Lewes, Brixton, Kinsale and Totnes.  Traydio are doing a great service to the Transition movement by doing these monthly podcasts.  If you have any good Transition-related audio, do sent it to Carl Munson at Traydio, you never know, it might end up in one of these podcasts.

Book Review: Preparing for Peak Oil: local authorities and the energy crisis

‘Preparing for Peak Oil: Local Authorities and the Energy Crisis’, prepared by the Oil Depletion Analysis Centre and the Post carbon Institute.  2008. 41 pages.  Free download here.

The whole question of how to communicate peak oil to local government, and how to support and encourage their creative and rapid responses to it, is huge and very timely.  ‘Preparing for Peak Oil’ is an excellent guidebook for anyone who wants to bring their local authority up to speed on energy depletion and climate change issues.  It is clear, well presented, and achieves an excellent balance between presenting the hard facts about peak oil alongside some positive and inspiring examples of change, as well as some clear and well thought through thinking tools.

A Call for Input for the Transition Guide to Money

(A message from Peter North at Liverpool University)… Green Books in the UK will be publishing a guide to alternative currencies as part of their “Transition Guides” series called: “Money: how to unleash a money revolution where you live”.  I am writing it, and it will be published in September next year. It won’t be an inaccessible academic tome, but an affordable accessible ‘how to’ guide.  I have to deliver the manuscript in February.

If I Were Not in Nottingham for the Transition Cities Conference I Would be…
