Strategies that bring people together with their neighbours to explore carbon reduction on a street-by-street level are very powerful. They can be a great way, through the support they offer, of tackling POST PETROLEUM STRESS DISORDER and providing EMOTIONAL SUPPORT/ AVOIDING BURNOUT. Being part of such a group has been found to increase PERSONAL RESILIENCE, while at the same time offering a powerful tool for MEASUREMENT, gathering hard data about very real carbon reductions. Finally, these tools are excellent AWARENESS RAISING methods.

Context.
In Transition initiatives, often it is local food projects which are the first PRACTICAL MANIFESTATIONS to get established. They can be one of the first opportunities to practice SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP meaningfully, and offer a good place to start creating STRATEGIC LOCAL INFRASTRUCTURE.

My years as a teacher taught me that if one person asks a question, even if they think they are “missing something obvious”, chances are that many others are wondering the same thing. Context:
A key part of BECOMING A FORMAL ORGANISATION is the creation of working groups. They also enable the initiative to move to creating PRACTICAL MANIFESTATIONS and to embodying the ‘PROJECT SUPPORT’ CONCEPT, whereby the initiative is driven by the people who are passionate about it and who are putting the time in on the ground to making things happen.

Visioning is a core activity that will run through all the activities of your Transition initiative. It will be most obviously a key aspect of creating ENERGY DESCENT ACTION PLANS, itself an exercise in collective visioning, but will also underpin your initiative’s STRATEGIC THINKING.
