Powerdown Ireland’s Amazing Flying Flyer.

cc1Finding imaginative and creative ways to communicate ideas about energy descent is a big challenge. Just piling depressing information onto people is ultimately self-defeating, and feeds a sense of powerlessness. The Cultivate Centre in Dublin has always been exceptionally good at communicating sustainability, through its written materials, its programme of events, and also through its graphics materials. Now, as part of its new Powerdown Community Project, they have produced a rather cool flyer (in an interesting twist on the term) to promote the concept of powerdown, which they will distribute at various events around the country.

Meditations on Deciding Never to Fly Again…

nofly1That’s it, decision made. Don’t know why it took so long really, but finally we have agreed that we won’t fly any more. Richard is one of the best speakers on peak oil around, he addresses the subject with such compassion and insight, and is a great orator, that any opportunity to hear him is always very illuminating. David Holmgren, co-founder of permaculture, is an amazing thinker on energy and sustainability,

My ASPO 5 Presentation – download it here.

presI gave my talk near the end of the second day, and as far as I could tell, it seemed to go down well. It was called *”Plan B – enabling relocalisation as a response to peak oil”* and looked at scenarios and relocalisation, as well as exploring the area of addictions in relation to peak oil. I told the story of the Kinsale Energy Descent Plan and gave an overview of what we are hoping to achieve in the Transition Town Totnes initiative. I had some very positive feedback at the end of the event from a number of people, including

Launching … Transition Town Totnes!

**Transition Town Totnes – Programme September – December 2006.**

tttWe are delighted to announce the programme of events for the first 4 months of the Transition Town Totnes initiative. The project will develop, over the next 12 – 18 months, an Energy Descent Action Plan for Totnes, designing a positive way down from the oil peak, building on the work begun in Kinsale. It will strive to be inclusive, imaginative, practical and fun. We have put together a programme which combines inspirational speakers, many of whom will be visiting Totnes for the first time, film screenings, Open Space think tank days and much more.
