**Do you think that a low-carbon business-as-usual is possible, or is a low carbon world so radically different from the present that we can hardly begin to imagine it?**
I think there will be a transition, and I think it is pretty impossible for us to have an orderly withdrawl from the Carbon Age that happens very quickly, we can’t do it. Our infrastructure, our transportation systems, our fuel mix, our agriculture crucially, everything, is geared up to being heavily dependent on fossil fuels.

**Tony Juniper** is the executive director of Friends of the Earth UK, and a seasoned environmental campaigner. Recently down in Totnes teaching part of the three week Climate Change course at Schumacher College, he also spoke in town as part of the TTT programme. I managed to grab 15 minutes of his time to ask him a few questions.

**Oil Vulnerability Auditing – a Workshop Organised by Envision and Transition Town Totnes, Follaton House, Totnes.
Presented by Simon Snowden of University of Liverpool.**
How does a project like Transition Town Totnes engage with the business community in the surrounding area? This is a question which is key to the success of the process, and something grassroots environmental projects have always struggled with. We were delighted then that Simon Snowden from the University of Liverpool came down a couple of weeks ago to run a workshop with representatives of 10 local businesses to explore this.

I write this post somewhat haggard and bleary eyed. One of the joyful spinoffs of fatherhood is those nights where one or more of your children are up vomiting all night. Last night was a supreme exhibition of synchronised vomiting, 2 children awake most of the night, copious puke and very little sleep. Now, the morning after the night before (or something), having spent some rather unpleasant time rinsing sheets and towels, I am reminded of a discussion I had while teaching on the Life After Oil course at Schumacher College this week (of which more in later posts). A post-peak world will, by necessity, mean less electronic ‘stuff’, and while I would reluctantly but understandingly kiss goodbye to mobile phones, TVs, computers and toasted sandwich machines, you would need a crowbar to separate me from my washing machine.

Just thought you might like to see this, a rather nice write up of last weekend’s Open Space Day on Energy, together with a picture of Totnes Open Spacers having fun…. taken with thanks from this week’s Totnes Times. Just to show we’re not making all this up!
We had a great evening with **Bob Flowerdew** in Totnes Civic Hall last night, over 200 people. He was very entertaining and a real showman. I also did an interview with him over a pizza beforehand which I’ll post here as soon as I get it typed up. Next week sees the launch of our building events, I’ll post more about them on Monday.
