Another Review of The Transition Handbook

hbkBy Richard Barnett, editor of Pulse.

The newly published Transition Handbook is so important that I am tempted just to confine this review to five simple words ‘You must read this book!‘ But to do so would, of course, completely fail to communicate its message which is, I believe, so profound and inspiring that I want to do my very best to encourage its spread far and wide. Rob Hopkins is described on the book cover as ‘The Founder of the Transition Movement’. I would add to that that he is a superb communicator, visionary and one of the most important thinkers in our chaotic 21st century world.

Transition Initiatives in at Number 6 in the Resource Magazine Hot 100.

100The latest issue of **Resource Magazine** (“a new perspective on waste”) features Transition Initiative on the front cover. Transition stuff appears twice inside, once in a 2 page article about Transition Initiatives which was rather good, and secondly in The Hot 100, which it somewhat alarmingly introduced as “the definitive list of 2007’s red hot, sizzling chillies”. There, sitting resplendent at Number 6, you’ll find Ben Brangwyn and Rob Hopkins of the Transition Network”. Apparently we got there due to “revolutionising the future of our communities and their resource use”. Not quite sure we can in any way claim any credit for doing anything like that, but it is nice to appear there among many other luminaries. Thanks to Resource Magazine for thinking of us.

Transition Culture Voted UK’s Fourth Best Green Blog!

100bestLast year **Transition Culture** was voted the 12th best green blog over at The Daily (Maybe), a fact of which we were hugely chuffed, referring often to being the “12th Best Green Blog”. This year we have leapt up the Top Twenty, to fourth! This year’s winner is Alice in Blogland, and it’s great to appear once again among such august company. The Daily Maybe is now holding its “People’s Choice Award 2007”, where you can vote for your favourite site, any votes for Transition Culture would be much appreciated! Thanks to Jim Jay for noting what’s happening here and for including us in the list.

Transition Town Totnes Celebrates Its First Birthday in Style.

cakeOn Thursday 6th September, a year to the day of its Official Unleashing, Transition Town Totnes celebrated its first birthday at the Royal Seven Stars Hotel in Totnes. The sell-out event was an opportunity to reflect upon the achievements of the previous year and to look ahead to where TTT might go next. Organised by the TTT Celebrations group who made the space absolutely beautiful and the event run smoothly, it was a great examples of John Croft’s exhortation that Transition initiatives should celebrate as often as possible.

Wishing Transition Town Totnes a Happy Birthday.

cakeNext Thursday is the first birthday party of Transition Town Totnes, and we are celebrating the occasion by having a birthday party. As part of this, various people who have spoken for TTT over the last year have been sending in their birthday greetings to be read out on the evening (I’ll post those here after the event). We thought it might be nice to just throw it open to the wider world too, and we’ll put up all the birthday greetings you send in on the wall and read some of them out on the night. So, if you would like to send TTT a birthday greeting, please post it as a comment below. Has the work done here inspired, enthused or uplifted you? Have you been inspired to start your own Transition Initiative? Please do send in your birthday greetings to a community in Transition!
