Always Read the Small Print…. Especially Chevron’s.

crYou should always read the small print. A friend of mine recently bid on Ebay and won what he thought was a Playstation portable thing (also known as a PS2 apparently) for his son for £40. What actually arrived in the post was a piece of paper featuring a list of auctions where such a thing could be bought. Ebay is full of this particular scam. My son recently tried to convince me to buy a quad bike for £5, until I pointed out the small print; like my friend, what we would actually be buying was a piece of paper with some nonsense about quad bikes on it. When it comes to large oil corporations, a closer read of their small print can also prove illuminating.

The Heart and Soul of the Transition Town Totnes initiative takes flight.

ttt1 This weekend sees the first course run by the first Transition Town Totnes group, which calls itself **Heart and Soul – the Psychology of Change**. The group is exploring the psychological aspects of the post-peak transition, how to facilitate peoples’ collective journey through this transition. Meg Wheatley on Energy Descent Planning – Part One.

**Interview with Meg Wheatley – Schumacher College. Wednesday, 14th June 2006. Part One.**

meg*I was very lucky when Meg was at Schumacher College earlier this year to get to spend an hour with her, asking her for her thoughts about the Energy Descent Planning process. She had spent the previous afternoon reading through the Kinsale plan, and I was fascinated to hear her thoughts on how her work to do with complexity theory and change would relate to it. I wasn’t disappointed. I found this interview hugely insightful and illuminating, and it gave me lots of ideas which I am gradually working into my work. Second part tomorrow…*

Radio 4 Addresses Peak Oil.

oilBBC Radio 4 has just begun what looks like it will be an excellent series, **Driven by Oil**, which explores peak oil, what it means and when it might be. The first one was called “When Will The Tap Run Dry?”, and in it, presenter Tom Mangold explored the biggest debate facing the oil industry today – will we run out of oil, and if so, when? It featured many names familiar to **Transition Culture** readers, including Kjell Alekett, Matt Simmons, and Dr Ali Samsam Bakhtiari, as well as some new ones, some from within the oil industry.

Transition Town Totnes flyer available.

ttt coverThe flyer for Transition Town Totnes is now done, is at the printers, and will be ready tomorrow. I thought those of you outside of the ‘pop into Totnes and pick one up’ radius would like to see it. It was done by the very creative, professional and patient Simon Blackler of Idealic in Ivybridge. Idealic is a South West Devon design agency specialising in corporate identity, concerned about the affects of climate change, wanting to work with companies who wish to work more sustainably, who I recommend wholeheartedly. You can download it here. Do feel free to print out and distribute or circulate in whatever way seems appropriate.
