Giving Totnes Pounds to the Prince of Wales.

pow1I had the great privilege this week to be invited to teach as part of the Prince of Wales’s **Farming and Food Summer School** on his Highgrove Estate in Gloucestershire. He has, over recent years, developed a number of these summer schools on subjects such as architecture and education, and this was the first one to explore food and farming. The delegates had been invited from a diversity of backgrounds, senior people from DEFRA and the NFU, some from the commercial sector such as TESCO and Sainsburys, some local food pioneers and farmers, some organic, some not. The aim of the 4 day course was to explore the concept of sustainable food, and what that might mean in practice.

Alex Munslow has been editing again, doing marvellous things with the footage he took at the Inaugural Transition Network meeting a few weeks back. This time, he has taken a section out of the talk I gave which focuses on resilience, and on the historical resilience that used to underpin the UK that we have largely dismantled, and made a short film out of it, which you can now see on YouTube. Food and Farming in Transition – Dartington Hall, 11th June 2007.

ffOne of the most important and prestigious events yet to be run by Transition Town Totnes tool place on Monday night in the Great Hall at Dartington. Entitled **Food and Farming in Transition: the Renaissance of British Food Culture as the Age of Easy Oil Draws to a Close**, the evening brought together a very impressive selection of speakers. Despite not publicising the event extensively, the evening was a sell out, and in the serendipitous way Transition Town events often occur, despite there being a lot of people with no tickets, everyone got in with only one or two seats to spare. The talks were designed to be short and to take the audience on a journey through to a rethinking of our food system.

**Food & Farming in Transition: The Renaissance of British Food Culture as the Age of Easy Oil Draws to a Close.**

dtOne of the highlights of the Transition Town Totnes calendar of events for 2007, indeed one of the most important events we have yet run, takes place at the Great Hall, Dartington on the evening of June 11th. Entitled **Food and Farming in Transition**, it is an exploration of how agriculture might adapt to an energy constrained world, and the opportunities as well as the challenges that it faces. The evening brings together 4 speakers who have all featured on **Transition Culture** at various times, Chris Skrebowski, Jeremy Leggett, Patrick Holden and Vandana Shiva. We are delighted to be able to bring you this event in association with Dartington Arts and Ecology. Tickets are now on sale from the Dartington Box Office.
