A couple of weeks ago, 150 people from across Spain gathered in Zarzalejo for the country’s first Transition gathering. By all accounts it was an extraordinary event. This post draws together various accounts of the event, and photos from it (a film is soon to follow), but we start with a short interview with Emilio Mula who attended the event. How was it? Who came? How is the emergence of Transition in Spain looking? How did he leave the event feeling?
A while ago, Transition Network held a ‘Thinky Day’ around the Big Society and how Transition might best respond to that. These bringings together of people to explore the ‘edge’ of Transition are very useful, and yesterday saw the next one, entitled ‘Peak Money and Economic Resilience: a Transition Network one-day conversation’, held at the offices of Calouste Gulbenkian in London. About 50 people came together to explore the scale of the economic challenges we are facing, what Transition is already doing to respond to that, and what else it might do, or how it might adapt what it does to be more appropriate to these fast-changing times. I will attempt here to provide a record of the day and of the key discussion points that emerged. Any misrepresentations due to my note-taking are entirely my own doing…
In this month’s Transition podcast, we go into more depth with three of the stories from this month’s Transition round-up. We hear about Transition Guelph‘s recent ‘Resilience Festival’, what Marsden and Slaithwaite Transition Towns did with their LEAF funding, and what happened when Transition Belper suggested turning a local car park into a vegetable garden. I am really pleased today to be able to share with you some of the key outputs from Transition Streets, which I have written about here before. Let’s start, for people who are new to the concept, with this short video which beautifully captures how Transition Streets worked in Totnes:
This was included in yesterday’s round up, but I think it deserves a post all to itself. The other day, through the marvel of Twitter, I received a message “Dear Robin. In the South of Chile, The Pucón Iniciative of Transition made a Film!!!” (my Twitter account is @robintransition). The link took me to this wonderful film. One of the great joys of Transition is hearing stories of it popping up in unexpected places. This film is a joy.
