The 2008 Soil Association Conference, don’t miss it!

Last year’s Soil Association conference was an extraordinary event, one that took its delegates on a powerful journey into peak oil and out the other side.  Its insights and developments have informed many of its new projects and initiatives since, and this year’s conference takes the theme deeper, and is entitled “Transition: Food and Farming in 21st century Britain”. Like last year, it looks like an event not to be missed.

This year’s keynote speakers are;

  • Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP, Secretary of State for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs
  • Monty Don, President of the Soil Association
  • Rob Hopkins, Founder of the Transition Network
  • Patrick Holden, Director of the Soil Association
  • Tim Lang, Professor of Food Policy at City University
  • Jeremy Leggett
  • Caroline Lucas MEP, Leader of the Green Party
  • Pete Smith, Professor of Plant and Soil Science, University of Aberdeen
  • Dr Vandana Shiva

There will also be a broad range of workshops.  The conference takes place on 18-19 November 2008, at the Passenger Shed, British Empire and Commonwealth Museum, Bristol. The publicity for the conference says;

Fossil fuel depletion, climate change, diminishing soil and water resources and population growth present an unprecedented threat to global food security. To address these challenges Britain and every country in the world needs a future food plan”

…and that will be one of the themes explored at the conference. You can read the provisional programme of the event here and you can book here. Hope to see you there!
