Good article. I have been talking to friends and family for years about peak oil and how the Industrial Growth Society is unsustainable. But nobody listens. Everybody is more interested in what new car they are going to buy or where they are going on holidays, etc. The main problem for me is that even though I can see the storm clouds approaching I am unable to do anything about it as I lack the financial resources to build a more green and self sustainable alternative lifestyle for me and my family in a more rural setting. I want to get-out and prepare for this coming problem, but I can’t! HELP!

Excellent article . Can I quote you in a book I am writing . I agree that this is inevitable but as in everything timing is the key . There are two things I am sure of ONE that you will never get any Government to prepare for Peak Oil in any shape or form . TWO that it is really nice to imagine driving a horse and cart and raising crops and living locally as the global world disappears and that may eventually be the outcome but before that we will need to endure the total civil unrest that will appear on our streets as food and water become in very short supply , we will need to survive the attemped implemtnation of Martial Law and Resource Rationing which the Government will be powerless to impose . The liklihood is that hundreds of thousands of people will either be killed by others or simply starve to death as water and food stocks disappear . Only those in remote places maybe even in Ireland but certainly in the Amazonian regions , the bedouin deserts etc will you see pockets of people survive . Maybe then your permaculture idea will find a willing but much smaller audience . Peter Dodds Whitstable Kent peterdodds41@hotmail.com
