Your movie initiative is very inspiring that needs possible extension to cover the tropics, for which you can consider the following for possible collaboration.

Tom Onyango has a background that has been spanning for nearly three decades, emanating from initial certificate training in Agriculture Development & Extension. Over the years, the experiences generated through local, regional and international exposure, attained him a Master of Biological Science degree in Environmental Resources Management, from the University of Salford, North West of England. A dissertation he submitted was as part requirement for the qualification, entitled: “Towards Sustainable Farm Ecosystems in Africa”, with reference to Agriculture Development in Kenya and the Eastern Africa region-discussed Tropical Agroforestry at length.

Now a livelihood security & environmental resources management practitioner, Tom works at the interface where under-served communities need knowledge empowerment to take responsibility for their sustainable development.

Tom has volunteered variously by facilitating community Agroforestry related project design initiatives towards household food and biomass energy security and environmental conservation, especially in Kenya and around East Africa region which includes stints with ICRAF.

An Agroforestry documentary in these parts would be a worthwhile IEC resource material for extension service provision.

Whatever your take, it would be highly welcome. On the whole -congratulations!

Peter, You might be better off speaking to the Rubha Phoil Forest Garden, Isle of Skye, as they will have a similar climate. Martin is a wealth of information but he is based in Devon!

On a separate point heres a link to a little inner city orchard project I've been involved with in Nottingham. We aimed to plant 100 fruit trees in our neighbourhood in peoples backyards and gardens!

Peter - I don;t know the answer to that, but the best person to ask would be Martin Crawford of the Agroforestry Research Trust. He supplies to all over the country. The website for contact details is www.agroforestry.co.uk

Good luck!

Just out of interest, I would like to ask something. I have a vested interest in a small uninhabited island near the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland, and I'm wondering if you know of any fruit or nut trees that would grow reasonably well in a Scottish climate. Thanks!

We've been planting walnuts, almonds, sweet chestnuts, hazel nuts and a few heartnuts (which are a bit like a cross between pecan and walnut I think.)

They have been specially adapted for the climate and to fruit in just a few years, by the Agroforestry Research Trust which is based in Dartington, just a few miles from Totnes.

Wonderful, simple and inspiring film.
Can you tell me what varieties of nut you have been planting?
Thank-you.

How lovely to have a film of this. As mentioned in the film, we planted 50 nut trees in the community in the first year, 50 in the second, and will have planted 80 out by the end of this winter. Our mission is to transform Totnes into the "Nut Capital of Britain"...

Any donations to support this project would be most welcome! Contact the TTT office (01803 067 358) or transitiontowntotnes@googlemail.com if you're able to help.

The nutters will be most grateful.
