You are REMOVING power. Destroying it. That is what they will be afraid of, and they will be right to be afraid of it, because the destruction of the power they live on will destroy them.

Keep them out. Keep the power structure decentralized. This is our chance to starve the beast.

Oh, yeah- never mind that you are NOT after "power". The Powers That Be will think you are- that's what will drive their actions.

Yeeehaaa!, as we say in the US. :-) Outstanding.

One of the things that has always impressed me about the Transition movement -(you're a Movement!) - is the extent to which you have foreseen and planned on "the next stage" for it all. Getting people excited is great- and then what? Meetings. And then what? Actions. And then what?

You've thought about it; provided for it, to an extraordinary extent.

Here is another "And then What?" though- large scale attention and credibility. You are on the verge of NOT being a whacko.

And then...?

I'm very curious to know- how much time have you (Rob, and others) given to thinking about that stage?

My own guess as to the greatest hazard: being co-opted by some large powerful entity. That's a very standard tactic in history- take over a grass roots movement and make sure it doesn't REALLY disrupt the existing power structure. "Monsanto Joins Transition Movement!" - now there is a nightmare.

I don't particularly have answers- it just worries me.

A straightforward way for us to speed the introduction of electric cars would be conduct a buying strike on non-electric new cars.

It would be really easy for people to implement. They just wouldn't buy a new car and they would tell their local car retailer why.

Only by incentivising the car companies in this way will they be motivated to give up the large sums of money they have invested in fossilised fuel technology that is so harmful to our climate and rapidly develop the electric car alternative.
