With all due respect Mr Crane, this is the point: whether the planet is cooling or burning, whether there is 3 trillion barrels of oil in the ground or any other number you can think of, we need to start living differently if we are to avoid ecological collapse. Oil fuels economic growth, and economic growth leads to too many people, using too much of the resource base. The resource base is finite. The Transition movement empowers us to be prepared and resilient for the future challenges, whatever holes you want to pick in Rob Hopkins's arguments.

Rob, thank you for coming to Forest Row. Your talk was inspiring, and I'm really relieved that the worst news you had for us was that children of today don't read Asterix and Obelix! I echo what Rowena says above. Much time is wasted in debating whether or not Peak Oil is/will happen and whether or not climate change is human induced. The point is, our world cannot sustain the way we are living and the ecosystem which supports our very lives will collapse for sure, unless we change what we human beings are doing. More focus on the whole picture will win more hearts and minds, I think.

Rob - thanks for the great write up and for coming to speak in our village. I asked you a question which has been distilling further since last night... its around the holistic view. You talked about how you (we) get a better perspective of both Climate Change and Peak Oil when both are considered together (and you had that great slide).. Can you take this a stage further with the whole of natural finite wealth (the one planet living perspective that takes a view from the perspective of not just environmental run out but also of justice)... it will surely reach similar conclusions and actions but will feel much broader, more holistic, and more resiliant! I say this as surely we will only really know when peak oil is/was when we have the benefit of at least 20 years hindsight. (You may rightly guess I get my ear bent on this quite often and no, I haven't yet read 'Peak everything' but its on my list!) Many thanks again.

I met Mike at the European Social Forum in London a few years back at a workshop on "How to Avoid Burn Out" - I hope this means that he's found it with all those people to join in the great work.

Well, done Mike and to everyone. It sounds a wonderful evening and holds much promise for the years ahead. Here's to us packing the Dome for our unleashing here in Brighton!!

Congratulations to Mike and all the other people involved in the Forest Row Transition Initiative. It sounds like a wonderful event to be proud of and something I dream of seeing happen in Bristol one day. Go Transition!
