Donna,

the original report came out just before last xmas:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/farright/story/0,,1977519,00.html

"Mr Griffin's [Chairman, BNP] ultimate aim is not to win control of a local authority or even take a seat at Westminster, but to position the party for a time of national crisis.
...
Mr Griffin is convinced that the support of just 18% of the British electorate would put the party just "one crisis away from power"."

"We’ve got to replace fossil fuels, and that message is beginning to get out, which is encouraging" is the final sentence in the summary. But completely wrong, misleading and dangerous. Does anyone know of a fuel that is friendly to climate change and has the energy density of oil or gas? And is a subsitute for either? The real issue is that our mode of living is going to change, and not for the better. We either start to prepare for that or we don't. And there are no promises for success. Let's stop sugar coating this and face reality as we best know it.

Rob, good work reporting this panel! I have a question: Above, Jeremy shares this:

...you may have read the exposé in the Guardian over prisons, where the Guardian put an under cover reporter in the British National Party, and he got quite high to the top, and learnt their strategy. And their strategy is not to win elections – their strategy is to wait peak oil out, and they think that’s what’s going to sweep them to power.

I haven't read the expose so this is a bit confusing to me. The waiting-out strategy is something they do in prisons? Or is Jeremy referring to a strategy of politicians? If so, which politicians? I ask because it'd be good to know if the pols really do know about PO and are stonewalling rather than just being ignorant. Also, how would waiting out PO sweep them to power? Ignoring PO as an issue will eventually backfire on all the pols, as was discussed elsewhere in this article.

Thanks!
