after visiting Romania a couple of months ago i thought that the real change of a society should and only could be made first there. since there are yet a lot of communities living in the way people lived 100 years or more ago like. 70 % of the people is working the land, they do this organically since they do not have the money to buy pesticides or herbicides. the poor people do have cars though they aren't as much addicted to them as we are. the people are less mobile but have stronger communitylife. i am myself from belgium and i must say the way sustainability, peak oil, permaculture etc... are in the picture here around Totnes and more overall in the south west of england, it is unseen in Belgium. but there is also a wide range of people that do not agree on the importance of these issues. only facing the reality will take them there but it could to take some more time. since a country as Romania (especially the poor communities) is building itself up now, i think it is very interesting to start there with projects which when the needs get higher can be copied to the west. i think a lot of people and commercial businesses are now investing in Romania since it became part of the EU. the question should be if the poor communities in Romania still got to go the same way like we did in the west or should there be made an effort now to not let that happen and build up a sustainable society. i wish to find people to discuss this.
