In response to the above...When you hear politicians and scientists say "envision hydrogen-powered transportation", they are referring to the production of hydrogen gas via electrolysis which will be powered by electricity generated by nuclear plants, and hence it's as if nuclear powers transportation.

And the nuclear 'solution' never answer questions of where the waste goes, the total life cost (to the consumer, but what about the environment?), and availability of fuel all the way from mining and delivery (Not-in-my-backyard), and commondity prices.

Firstly I agree and would love to see such a re-structuring of our society. However who would this benefit? Why the vast majority of people of course (whether they know it or not). Who would loose out? Large and currently very wealthy corporations. Who is going to exert influence over the media through advertising revenue and politicians in an affert to stave off such an eventuality for as long as possible until it happens catastrophicly? Yep you guessed it! Remember "conventional wisdom" is something that is generally accepted to be true, not something that actually is true, and the media holds sway in this arena. The more the message of energy descent can be spread the more possible it is to survive the transition, but this message should be subtle and pervasive to avoid being carpet bombed.
